An amethyst ABSTRACT that was alot of fun to cut. I'm really enjoying just being able to play and experiment with my gemcutting, it is quite liberating in a way. The finished gem followed the natural shape of the crystal and the amethyst crystal had that really cool 'nuclear' pattern zoning that is common in this type of material, that hexagonal pattern of three light and three dark alternating triangles... you know it when you see it. So i tried to take advantage of it when positioning the cuts and features. Curiously, I had it pointed out to me that the effect of the bubbles and circles in the stone is reminiscent of the Circular Gallifreyan alphabet, something which I had not twigged to. Fans of Doctor Who would know what I'm talking about. :-)

Comments : A very smart little amethyst which shows the wonderful rich colours that this material from Uruguay is known for. It is eye clean and has an interesting and well placed zone that is clear of colour. Its not huge or anything, rather it's shaped like a "V" and when the gemstone is pointed downwards it looks like a mask with the zone making the eye slits. I think this zone (or rather the orientation of it) will need to be taken into account when setting it. It doesn't really show up in the pictures unfortunately. A very fine gem.

Comments : Here is a fine suite of Australian Gemstones. There are three champagne zircons from "The Mud Tank" out at Harts Ranges in Central Australia, and a beautiful amethyst from Binbee, a small area near Bowen in Queensland. They are all superb gems, nice and clean, bright and colourful. The amethyst is very fine, a nice medium saturation with lots of subtle colours. Very fine gems.

Comments : If you after after a good large dark amethyst from Uruguay, this is the one for you. This is a nice large stone. It has several small veil inclusions in one corner which are very hard to spot and would mostly likely be hidden by the setting. It is predominately deep blues and purples and violet pink flashes. Overall a very impressive gem.

Comments : This is a totally awesome amethyst! Its huge and it means business. There is alot of action going on in this gemstone with deep velvety purples and flashes of indigo and red. The design is one I created specifically for this particular piece of amethyst and I envisage it being set in a big and bold chunky men's gold ring. It is a deep cut in an oval shape with a high-top dome. It would be VERY impressive indeed and nothing less would do! You should see it at nighttime... it is breath-taking and simply stunning. You could look at it for hours. The deep cut also adds something special and creates a very interesting "depth-perception" sort of effect... don't really know how to put it into words... you simply have to see it to believe it. This stone is totally unique... it is certainly not something you see everyday. The photos do not in anyway do justice to the gem and the colours. There is a very slight veil which is not noticeable face up... other then that, perfect!

Comments : This is a lovely gemstone in a very elegant design which you will rarely come across. It has a classic shape and will make a wonderful ring. The colour tone is good and not overly saturated. There are the vivid flashes of rich purple, indigo, pinkish-purple and more which are characteristic of amethyst from Uruguay. This is a first class stone and finely cut. There is the tiniest of feather veils on one of the edges just on the inside of the girdle and is difficult to see. It is not noticeable when the stone is viewed face up and would be hidden once the stone is set.
