Along with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, emeralds are among the most widely known gemstones in the world. They have a very rich and storied history stretching back as far as it is possible to go in legend. The Emerald Tablet, the Emerald Ring of Solomon, countless stories and adventures are woven around this near mythical gemstone of verdent and vivid green hues. We've probably all seen emeralds in movies, pictures, and even in person but there is something deeply resonant and sensual, totally captivating when you hold an emerald in your hand that is of the best and most luscious green... it is a colour that is unique to emerald and glows with an inner fecund fire. There is nothing else quite like it.
Of all the gemstones in the mineral kingdom, emeralds are known as being among the most notoriously difficult gemstones to photograph. Accurately capturing and representing that unique emerald green is most elusive and unfortunately it currently eludes me. Personally I think it is something to do with the presence of chromium and vanadium and how that influences light within the stone that makes it so hard for cameras to process. It is very rare to see emeralds photographed well. All I can say is that I try my best but please remember that the pictures are only a representation and a poor one at that of the intense and verdant green that only emeralds have. This is why it is so important to view these emeralds in the hand to truly appreciate just how incredible they are.
Emeralds are also famous for their garden. This is the wonderful tangle of tapestry within and unique to each individual emerald just as fingerprints are to each of us. In the hand these gardens are three dimensional and can be magnificent, however the camera has a particular way of flattening the garden into two dimensions, as if you laid a large heavy sheet of wood onto a garden bed and then lifted it off. The garden would be compressed and lose it's depth. This is what the camera does so please also keep that in mind. Now, having said all this, know that these gems shown here and that I have available are all exceptional emeralds with the best colour even though the pics might suggest otherwise.
I am able to offer the public one of the finest curated selections of precious emeralds in Sydney.
The emeralds shown here are just a very small selection of what is avaiable.
