Sorting Through A Parcel Of Rough
I think one of the things I really like about gemcutting are the colours. It's an opportunity to play with something that for me is special and real. Holding a beautiful gemstone is like holding a piece of clean, clear, pure solidified colour. There is also a certain significance in knowing that these stones are naturally like that and not artificially created like so much else in our lives. A small tangible piece of natural beauty. Here I am sorting through a parcel of "rough" with Pam (pictured) from Mt Surprise Gems. Its all very civilised, a cup of coffee and some of Pam's homemade biscuits.
