Comments : This beautiful silvery white topaz is the VERY FIRST one I've cut in my new design, the "Kiss Of Venus". This design I created in honor of the beautiful celestial dance between Venus and Earth. Check out the design for more info. This gem is a ball of fire out in the sunlight, totally dazzling and fireworks exploding out of it. It is fantastic! The design is a high-top dome and would be perfect as a ring or pendant. A very fine gemstone and totally unique.

Comments : I LOVE this design! I really should cut it alot more then I do. Actually I should do a whole series of stars and other frosted designs. I love them! This one is a beauty and I hear from folks that the five pointed 'lone star' has special significance with the state of Texas (any Texans out there that can share something about this? :-). This is a beautiful silvery white natural topaz that I personally dug at O'Briens Creek in North Queensland, Australia. It is a fine stone and really is very eye catching. How many nicely cut five pointed star gems out there do you see? Something a bit different and special.

Comments : This wonderful topaz is cut in a classic diamond style called the French Calibre. This design, originally for diamonds, is well suited to clear silver topaz and it has been optimised for this particular material. This gem was cut as part of a suite of gemstones, with #502 being a matched pair of stones suitable for earrings or studs. Together these three stones make a fantastic, bright suite of matched gems. These gems should fit a standard setting without any problems.

Comments : A fine matched pair of topaz. I personally hand dug the rough at O'Briens Creek which is a renown location for top quality topaz. The design reminds me of an Iris and the crown comes to an apex, it does not have a flat table. Ideally I think these gems would make great earring stones.

Comments : A fine O'Briens Creek topaz cut in a very interesting round "bar" cut. Kind of like a round version of the well known rectangular "Smith Bar" design. It creates a very effective and eye catching pattern and works very well. I think it would make a great pendant stone set in white metal. The gem is very bright and silvery white.

Comments : This fine O'Briens Creek topaz is cut in a variation of an Octagon step cut. It has a stepped design all the way around until you get to the culet where the facets look like compass spikes. It is a very nice and interesting design and works well in topaz. This topaz actually has just the faintest touch of natural champagne colour however it is not that apparent until you put it beside a pure silver topaz. Something a little different.

Comments : Here is an exceptional natural champagne topaz from O'Briens Creek. The saturation is fairly light but the soft champagne colour is quite definite in person. The gem is very bright and lively, and I think the lovely champagne colour gives it a certain sophistication. This particular champagne colour is not that common here on the O'Briens Creek gemfield and are certainly scarcer then natural blues. This is truely a very fine gemstone.

Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 16 x 16 x 6 mm
Price : SOLD

Comments : The spider is back! Here is a beauty... its a well cut spider in an O'Briens Creek topaz. The topaz is nice, clear and with a little touch of blue that you can't really see in the pics. The pics show alot of grey but that is just coming through from the smokey glass surface. The "hand-shots" show how clear and silvery white the gem is. This stone is ideal for a totally unique pendant or as a ring. Its about the same diameter as a gold sovereign that you often see set into a ring. It is a relatively thin stone so it will have a low profile. I have seen it set as a pendent in yellow gold and it looks amazing. Catch a spider by the thread... :-)

17/11/2011 * This piece has been set in 9K yellow gold by a great jeweller in Cairns, Graham The Jeweller. This is a top piece of workmanship, handmade, nice and solid and I like the simple design alot. This is a beautiful pendant, totally unique.

Topaz is the stone for the 23rd anniversary

Comments : The history of topaz is a long and ancient one and the gem has long been used as an ornament and jewelry stone. The name "Topaz" is thought to come from the name of an island in the Red Sea formerly called Topazos but now Zebirget. Topaz was mined here on this island. Another possible origin of the name Topaz is that it comes from the Sanskrit word "tapas" which means "fire" or "heat". This could be due to the yellow/red colour that topaz sometimes occurs in.

Many people believe that topaz comes only in yellow and this is true, it does come in yellow. However fancy colors like yellow, reds, oranges and pinks are actually quite rare, so is the very beautiful natural blue. My personal thoughts on why yellow has become closely associate with topaz, in the same way that blue is associated with sapphire, is that in historical times the technology or ability to differentiate between types of stones was very limited. Yellow quartz, now known as Citrine, is quite common in many parts of the world and I believe that alot of yellow topaz was actually yellow quartz. Today we have the ability to tell the difference between the various types of stones but one still has to be cautious in the marketplace and buy from a reputable dealer as there is still the potential for confusion.

Topaz makes an ideal jewelry stone as it is hard and very durable. It cuts well into brilliant designs and becomes a gem that has lots of scintillation and "fire". If I was pushed to pick a personal favorite of all the gemstones, I would probably have to give
natural blue topaz the nod. It is a stone that I love to cut and the colour, though soft, is divine. Truly it is! The soft blue colour is for me, the most elegant of blues, soft and delicate, sometimes ethereal, sometimes icy like the blue in an arctic iceberg. It is cooling on a hot day, fresh and light and always cheery and pleasing. Each stone is unique in its coloring, some have more blue, some less. The colour is easily as beautiful as aquamarine and in truth, far better then the vast majority of aquamarine that is in the marketplace.

Sadly, with the advent of modern gemstone treatment technology, natural blue topaz has taken an undeserved fall from popularity. Irradiation and heating is now routinely used to change the clear silvery white topaz into a uniform array of vivid treated blues. These stones have the trade names of london blue, electric blue, swiss blue and sky blue. The colour is the same for each category and this is the material that you see in jewelry stores across the land. It is cheap and plentiful whereas the natural blues are scarce and relatively expensive. This sudden mass explosion of treated blues dealt the natural blues a blow and that is sad, for these natural blues are easily one of the most beautiful gems in the world of coloured gemstones. Blue sapphires might be the Queen of Gems, but if there is a Princess of Gems, she would be a natural blue topaz.
